The Problem of American Support for a Jewish State
As with other well-intentioned efforts by the United States and World community to restore peace after World War II, such as division of Europe with the Russians, the approval of a Jewish state in Palestine by the Truman administration and the United Nations was done in the tumultuous climate of the time and did not foresee consequences or fully understand the motives of involved parties.
Statements after the war by Jewish leaders, like David Ben-Gurion, as well as the actions of Zionist terror groups in the 1940's should have been a sign that a new set of problems were emerging, and a situation had been created that would leave an open wound in that part of the world. The resulting self described socialist zionist state was created without a constitution, and exists courtesy of American funding and military power.
As with too many other foreign policy adventures, the United States once again finds itself supporting the malevolent actions of a group who, enjoying the protection of American power, have gone beyond their granted liberties to persue aims that, protected from scrutiny or accountancy, are not acceptable or defensible by the standards and ideals that are the founding blocks of the American Credo.
Besieging and punishing an entire Palestinian population is wrong, America is being blamed, and its policies on this issue can not continue along it's current course. It does not matter what religions are involved, it is wrongdoing just the same.
While each of the Christian, Islamic, and Judaic religions have endured their share of suffering and persecution, they also have to be held to account for their inherently divisive and competitive roles that have, in many regards, perpetuated the suffering and dysfuntionality that these religions have promised refuge from.
Conflict in the Middle East, or among religions or nations, is ultimately of benefit to no one, as most would agree that much rather would it be that we can hold in high regard the contributions to Humanity from the evolvements of the World's cultural and religious peoples, and thus see Humanity in it's highest regard in terms of what we know it is able to come together to achieve.
